Hello dear ones,
some may have me with Lipedema fashion missing. Over a year has passed. A lot has happened during that time. I would like to give you a brief overview and inform you about what you can expect from me in the near future.
A little review
My Daughter was born on December 12, 2017. Then everything just changed. Everything went a little out of joint. Also in a positive way. We had to redefine ourselves. As parents, as mother and father. Great responsibility and great concern came upon us. Great joys accompanied us through the year. In the end I can say that the trip was worth it. I've seen so much of the world, but I wouldn't have wanted to miss this beautiful trip with my daughter.
Many asked me in this regard whether my lipedema had changed during and after pregnancy. I can say very clearly "Yes.".
Yes it has changed. At the end of the pregnancy I had very bad water retention, and this lasted until two weeks after the birth. No shoe fit me anymore. I was pretty desperate at the time. But everything went away almost overnight. So lucky again. My legs were doing very well and due to the consequences of the birth I could not bear any compression for a while. It wasn't bad for me, I didn't notice any deterioration. So I just dropped the compression completely. What can I say? It's worked out. For about a year now, I've only been wearing my compression for sport (and unfortunately I rarely get to that). I'm not in pain, my legs are just not as trained as you were. Well, something comes from something like that.
Summary
So I can basically say that I have been compressionless since pregnancy and birth. I've already had an operation and actually the point was to be able to get rid of the compression. That finally worked. Although I have never had any difficulty wearing the compression, I am honestly very happy about it.
So what can you expect from me now? I will definitely stay active. I would like to continue to open my mind for you and give you an insight into my little world - lipedema and be mom. For many, this is a balancing act. How should you keep appointments with babies and toddlers? I would like to report such things for you.
Incidentally, I take my hat off to all the mothers on earth! You are awesome. What you do cannot be weighed in gold. Please keep it up!

Hi Anja,
I am glad that you are doing so well and everything has improved after the SS 🙂 I am also in the middle of it, I am in the 20th week and had an operation before that, I had no compromise for a few months before and I hope that it will continue after the SS can be again at least temporarily. I got the SS Kompri from Juzo, after a few teething problems with the medical supply store (they probably never had a pregnant woman and didn't measure properly) and I made a small change (the tape was still too tight and sewn on the wrong way) now - but for the coming summer I am thinking of getting me thigh highs with toe free, only I don't know the color yet. Do you have any experience with thigh stockings - to be honest, the tights pack too much for me…. and if it gets too much for me I help out with RS 🙂 All the best, Sabine
Hello dear Sabine, unfortunately I have no experience with it. I wore all the tights throughout my pregnancy. But I would recommend closed toes, especially during pregnancy. The pressure towards the end of pregnancy should not be underestimated. I know that this is very difficult to bear, especially in the warm season. But it's "just" a few months. Unfortunately, I can't give you a real tip, but I wish you all the best.
Anja
Hi Anja,
I hope you can help me.
I was diagnosed with lipedema about 1 year ago. Since I always had pain (especially in my lower legs), bruises quickly and the water retention was a lot, especially in summer, I went looking for a doctor who then diagnosed it.
I have also gained about 8 kilos since I was complaining and she said I was in level 1.
Now I come to my real question. I'm now in the 23rd ssw and notice that I already have some water in my legs and I think it will be a little more. (Wear compression stockings). The doctor strongly advised me not to breastfeed after the pregnancy. Which I think is a shame because I already wanted to. I only want the best for my child. But she said that I would gain enormous weight, my legs would then really explode and my pain would be quite severe. Of course, that scares me a little now. Of course I want me to be fine too. Because under pain I would also be limited. I already know some of it after running for a long time, the worst in summer. I've already researched robbery but couldn't find anything and hope you might have advice for me!
Glg greetings and thank you in advance
Hello Sarah
First of all, congratulations on your SS
I have been a mother for 4 months and have been silent despite lipedema. I was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago.
I myself had no problems with water retention or pain during the SS. On the contrary, my legs were fine. Still, I continued to wear my compression.
Neither side advised me against breastfeeding. My vascular surgeon didn't mention anything either.
I slowly notice that it is getting worse again with pain in my legs (would have been too nice too). But I can definitely deny that my legs have now "exploded".
Breastfeeding is something beautiful and if you want to do it then I would try it too. Ask another doctor again so that you can start calmly without feeling bad.
I'll cross my fingers for you.
Lg Sarah
Dear Sarah,
you speak to me from the soul. Breastfeeding is and remains a wonderful thing. Thank you for your report on this topic. I find that very interesting, especially since I would like to report separately on breastfeeding.
I wish you and your baby all the best and hope that your pain will be limited in the future.
Anja
Hello Sarah!
I will write an extra contribution on this topic. I would be interested in the basis on which your doctor makes such statements. I am currently still breastfeeding my daughter and I cannot speak of any more pain. Please don't be scared. Doctors have wild theories about the cause of lipedema and yet no one can find the cause. So sometimes we shouldn't believe everything they tell us. Sounds tough, but I really think that breastfeeding is an important component between child and mother. Try to see how you are doing ... but don't let a statement like that take it away from you.
I wish you all the best.
Anja
Dear Anja, nice to hear from you again !!
I am currently in the 24th week, so far my lipedema has been very good. I got a new compression today, just to be on the safe side 🙂 and I'm glad to hear that even after pregnancy (with or without surgery) extreme changes in lipedema don't always have to occur.
Best regards,
Lisa
Hello Anja, hello Sarah,
thanks for your articles. I also have lipedema and we are also trying to get pregnant right now. Of course I'm also scared how it will be. But please Sarah, don't listen to your fear about it. breastfeeding, but on your heart and your feelings. It's so bad that a doctor says that. I mean, I don't know what's in it, but breastfeeding is so important…. And I think you know intuitively what is right. Don't let anyone talk you into this. For a long time I have questioned very critically what doctors say….
I wish you all the best!

Hello! It's great how openly you talk about the problems with lipedema. I have had lipedema since I was 11 years old. Just like my mother and sister. We are all or were of normal weight before pregnancy, my mother especially petite with washboard abs. I also thought about the consequences before the pregnancy because my mother's lower legs, in particular, worsened with the pregnancies. For me it was the other way around. I gained about 8 pounds during pregnancy. My legs became slimmer and the cellulite almost completely disappeared! I was surprised about it and I would not have thought that! For the first time since I was young I could see my Achilles tendon hinted at! Unfortunately, I only gained a lot of weight while breastfeeding. For 6 years now I have been losing 30 kilos steadily. Although I am now too much, my lipedema has not gotten worse but rather weaker. I mainly gained weight on the upper body. It sounds paradoxical, but my figure now, at 15 kilos too much, looks proportionally better than before pregnancy with a thin belly where you can see the ribs and a thick bottom and legs.
