Carnival, Mardi Gras ... whatever you call it ... Helau, Alaaf ... oh, what isn't there?
Confetti, glitter, false eyelashes, dim light in pubs, freshly tapped Kölsch - all that and much more is Carnival. Somehow a way of life, not just for the season that is far too short. You either love carnival or you hate it. For my part, I love to dress up and always implement new ideas. You can slip into different roles and celebrate until it gets light again.
11.11. the season started anew every year - after a lively day in the pubs in Cologne there were numerous carnival sessions and then on Women's Thursday we went to Cologne again to make the pubs unsafe. This is followed by some carnival parades and then on Rose Monday to raise the glasses one last time.
And even with lipedema, there are numerous ways to dress up. I don't have lipedema myself, but still prefer to wear black, opaque tights. So there are some parallels and can give helpful tips on how to conjure up a wonderful carnival outfit.
Carnival - The most important motto is actually just: be brave and feel beautiful!
You don't need to hide, because a great costume is often a great way to start a conversation and not why you wear opaque tights or why you have thick legs (I also have fat legs, so what? 😉). If you want to divert attention from your legs or arms - put your cleavage in a beautiful light or wear a great lipstick as an eye-catcher. A great hairstyle, matching the outfit, often distracts from the problem areas. And as long as you think your costume is great and feel good, you will radiate it too.
Over the years I have slipped into a few costumes and would like to give you a few ideas that you may be able to implement in the coming season at a meeting, at the pub carnival or a carnival parade. Often it doesn't take much more than well-chosen pieces from e.g. B. H&M or Asos. Personally, I don't like carnival costumes that show the bad stuff. Therefore I prefer to fall back on clothes etc., which are then "misused" and made suitable for carnival with accessories.
Howdy, cowboy!
I had this costume at home:
- Skirt in black
- Basic top
- black tights
- Cowboy-like boots
- an old, plaid shirt from papa / grandpa
- Neckerchief folded triangular in red or another color of your choice
- Belt with a noticeable buckle, e.g. B. in western look via Asos
- black, small bag
- sunglasses
I also ordered on the Internet:
- Cowboy hat B. at carnival week
- blonde wig, e.g. B. via Amazon
- Toy revolvers, e.g. B. at carnival week
Miau - the cat
The cat costume is also quickly put together:
- Dress in black
- leo-patterned or black cardigan
- black tights
- Ballerinas (my choice is more black, the white ones get dirty too quickly 🙂)
Also available in the carnival shop:
- Headband with cat ears, e.g. B. Carnival week 1 , Carnival week 2 or im Set - sometimes you can also z. B. be lucky at Kik or Tedi ... just browse!
- Bow tie for the neck, e.g. B. carnival week
Last but not least, paint beautiful, long eyelashes and whiskers - done!
Rotkäppchen
Except for the bolero, the pearl necklace and the black tights, I had to put everything together from scratch:
- 50ies look dress by Luckylola (unfortunately my dress is no longer available, but you can find a huge selection here!)
- Little Red Riding Hood cape, e.g. B. from Amazon
And here's a little tip: it's not worth taking a basket with you for the pub carnival! Will break and take up too much space 🙂
Grrrrr - the leopard
Leopard has been my favorite costume over the years - it's so impressive just because of the make-up! A great example of how make-up is more than half the battle for a costume.
I had the following at home:
- Dress with leopard print by H&M, Here you are always lucky with this design in various shops. The dress has definitely paid off and I also wear it in my free time outside of Carnival. At Luckylola you will also find a lot in Leo optics!
- Cardigan
- black tights
- Ballerinas
I only bought the cat ears separately - e.g. B. at carnival week
On Google you can find great ideas under the search term "Leo Make-Up"!
Ahoy - the sailor
I've always wanted to be a seaman - also a great costume. Unfortunately, the red lipstick is missing here, which would have gone perfectly with it!
- I bought the dress on Ebay, unfortunately it was a long time ago, but you can certainly find it there or for example at Luckylola still dresses in the appropriate look!
- white cardigan by H&M
- red or dark blue tights
- blonde wig, e.g. from Amazon
- Sailor hat or Captain's hat, e.g. from Amazon or Karnevalswierts
The princess
To be a princess for a day has always been my dream! This year I fulfilled it.
At home I had the following for the look:
- black bolero
- Black tights by H&M
- pearl necklace
- Real hair extensions (borrowed from my girlfriend. Princesses have Rapunzel hair!)
And the following things have also found their place in my closet:
- Princess dress by Asos
- River Island Tiara, e.g. B. via Asos (unfortunately sold out ... but have a look at Asos or Amazon, they have great tiaras!) Here is also a nice tiara: Asos
- black cape, e.g. B. via Amazon
- pink shoes, e.g. B. from Asos
As you can see, you don't need a perfect dress size or an infinitely large purse to conjure up a great costume. Just be creative, try it out and have fun dressing up! Always remember: life is too short to hide and stand by what you have!
And if you have any questions, ideas or inspiration, please let me know!

All the best

Wonderful, your costumes. I'm so fun too - in the Swabian-Allannian carnival. 🙂
