In November I was able to meet Madlen Kaniuth, who is affected by lipedema, in Cologne for a joint conversation and bring a little surprise for you. You will find out more in a moment!
Who is Madlen Kaniuth?
Madlen was born on July 28, 1974 in Waren. Many know the actress from the series "All that counts", where she embodies the role of Brigitte Schnell and is now part of the permanent team. In addition to acting, she is also traveling as a singer. She regularly appears with her bands as a front woman all over Germany. Madlen also supports charitable projects again and again, such as B. the RTL donation marathon.
With us, she should be able to use her book "Thick legs despite diet" be known. Madlen published this in 2015 after her diagnosis of lipedema and her liposuctions.
The meeting
Madlen and I have arranged to meet for dinner in a small restaurant in Südstadt. She greeted me and my husband, who accompanied me, openly and warmly. After initial nervousness on my part, perhaps also with Madlen 😉, our conversation became more and more relaxed and open.
Madlen spoke to me openly about the fact that she had already been on a number of diets. There was even a period in her life when she narrowly slipped past an eating disorder. She also knew the rejection due to the fuller legs. Most of the time she did not let this deter her and continued on her way. However, it stuck in the memory.
She did not know about her illness for a very long time and only came to the diagnosis by accident. Until recently, Madlen assumed that she was definitely not among those affected and that her fat legs were solely "her fault". She put off the feeling of heavy legs with the strain of her job. She owed the tight skin to her weight. When she was diagnosed with lipedema, however, it felt like a burden that fell from her shoulders. Finally she wasn't responsible for it all. At last she had an explanation as to why a healthy diet would not impress her legs. And she was finally able to find a new path for herself.

Madlen told me that she knew relatively quickly that she would have an operation. As an actress and singer, it would have been impossible to schedule the lymphatic drainage appointments. Your appointment calendar is often mixed up and is sometimes overturned at short notice. Compression fitting would still have been feasible, but would not have been the ultimate solution. So she underwent three liposuctions at her own expense.
Today after the operations she is fine. She is still symptom-free and does not require any further treatment. She still pays great attention to her diet. That she is healthy and balanced. As far as time allows, Madlen also does sports regularly.
A nice evening
I was able to talk to Madlen very openly. She also sees liposuction not as a "cure", but as a good way of creating relief and quality of life. She is a very funny and cheerful person. I would like to thank Madlen once again for taking the time together. Also for their commitment and commitment. It was a very nice and funny evening that I won't forget anytime soon.
surprise.

Good morning, what a nice article 😉 For 30 years I didn't know why I had such fat legs, arms and pain. It was only when I could barely walk that an orthopedic surgeon happened to make the diagnosis and I got the right help.
I am very unhappy. In a short time my legs became severely swollen with almost 3 lipedema. I would be happy about the book.
A heartfelt thank you.
Hello, I'm Kathrin and I'm 34 years old. I got my diagnosis 3 years ago. After a tip from my physiotherapist to introduce myself to the phlebologist, I was diagnosed with lipolymphedema of the arms and legs. Until then, I was always put in the same drawer - regardless of who - and I have to admit that I had never heard of the disease before. But I was always sure that it all didn't fit together. I have not yet had an operation and I wear my compression tights every day and go to lymph drainage every week. I would be very happy about a signed book from the wonderful Madlen !!
On my way to the diagnosis, a lot was broken in me, especially a healthy relationship with my body. From one disturbed diet to the next, and in between constant sports programs that advertised the long-awaited “miracle solution” was definitely not good for me. Meanwhile I know why nothing has worked and can accept my body as it is and I am relaxed - since then I have actually lost pounds.
Even though I got my diagnosis quite early (about 25 years ago), I spent almost 20 years processing and accepting it! Only in the last few years, especially since the pain has increased, have I been able to deal with it differently. By consistently wearing the compression every day, lymphatic drainage twice a week and a lot of sport, everyday life is a little bearable and I can keep my stage. At the moment, my thoughts are in the direction of surgery, even if I can't afford it. The pain is slowly becoming weary 🙁
Madlen's experiences are very interesting and I would be happy about the book for myself and for our self-help group. Many greetings Sandra

From size 38 to today size. 62. After the birth of my son in 1981, I slowly gained weight. From 1991 it got worse and no diet helped. It was not until 2000 that the diagnosis of lip lymphedema was made by a specialist who also sent me directly to Bad Berleburg for decongestion. All the years before from one doctor to another. Whether an orthopedic surgeon or rheumatologist, I kept hearing "You have to lose weight". Nobody could explain all the pain to me.

If I think about it today, I have had lipedema since puberty. I always had thick thighs, and they kept getting thicker. It has always been said that it comes from competitive sports. Fortunately, I wasn't in pain. In 2008 and 2009 I each had a knee operation and then, according to the doc, a fat tumor was removed from my right (I haven't thought about it yet) until I got a bump under my knee and I got heavy water retention in the Had legs. I ran from ponzius to pilatus and was always only the fat one and take it off. I then partially reduced my food intake to a minimum of 800 kcal and still nothing has changed. In 2016 a pharmacist had the right nose and made me diagnosed with lipedema and said I had to go to a phlebologist. No sooner said than done, in January 2017 I had my diagnosis of stage 1 lipedema and the first flat knit garment. Everything went relatively well.
In January 2018 the pain came and I then received lymph drainage and was introduced to the Lipoclinic Dr. Heck and was at the nutritional advice. Everything pulled through well. Since December I had an extreme pain episode again, nothing helped ... so I decided to do the surgery to be pain-free.
As of today: still severe pain, 1st surgery appointment on October 8.10.19th, XNUMX and then it goes on.
Both great women!
I was incredibly lucky to have a mom who had the right nose and to have a lymphological specialist center in the village next door. Already in puberty she noticed the wrong proportions and I got the diagnosis. If only I had done the therapy back then as consistently as I do today, I would certainly have been spared a lot. Today I try to contain the course, despite new obstacles and lows like the arm compression that I have now added.
Many greetings and keep up the good work! You help many to get out of these lows!

Hello, I have been diagnosed with lipo-lymphedema completely surprisingly since last Wednesday. I am currently in multimodal pain therapy (for fibromyalgia) and it was discovered. Measurements will be taken tomorrow for the compression supply. I don't really know whether to be happy or not. I now know very little what's wrong with my legs!
Hello, thank you Tanja that your messenger of luck drew me, I'm really happy about the book. My address is Hauptstrasse 25, 33154 Salzkotten, thank you. I am happy about the book.
